How We Work

We help farmers and landowners navigate the complex challenges of farmland access, tenure, and transfer to realize their family, business, and community goals. We take a systems view by addressing all aspects of the issue and working with all who have a stake in the future of farming.

With our comprehensive and collaborative approach, we also develop, promote and support diversity and innovation around farmland tenure. We seek approaches that benefit farmers as well as landowners and the land. We look for creative solutions at multiple levels.

Educate & consult

We provide education, training, as well as one-on-one advising and technical assistance to farmers and landowners. Since farmers benefit from a team of advisors, we also educate, train and build capacity of agricultural farm service providers. We know we can’t do our work alone so we involve everyone—farmers, landowners, community leaders, agencies, service providers, advocacy groups, and community members.

Innovate & advocate

We research, develop, and implement innovative approaches to getting farmers on land. We help strengthen public policy when possible to work toward changes in the social, economic and political systems that will improve how farmers access, hold, and transfer farmland.

New England & beyond

New England is our target area of impact. Our Field Agents are on the ground across the region, working with farmers, strengthening service, and building a network of partnerships. We also reach beyond New England to lead and work on projects of national scope and significance. We are leaders in a broad network of groups that are tackling farmland access, tenure, and transfer issues across the country.
