#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
During these challenging times, it’s the generosity of the human spirit that brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives us the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
“It is when everything seems to be falling apart that we have an opportunity: to get through it together, and to put it back together the way we want it to be, not the way it was,” shared Asha Curran, Giving Tuesday CEO.
At Land For Good, our mission has always been to help farmers, farmland owners, and those who serve them because farmland security is the key to a more resilient local and regional food system. Right now this guidance feels more crucial than ever – and its importance will only grow as the economic toll on farmers and our food system ripple out.
This is a critical time for farmers and farming across New England–and a critical time for us all. Our quality of life and regional food security depends on the land security of our farmers.
Small and mid-sized farms that depend on local and regional markets are struggling since schools, restaurants and farmers markets have closed. Many older farmers, already uncertain about the future of their farms, won’t be able to save their farm business and will need a safe way to exit and, ideally, bring on a successor. We are hearing from farmers every day with requests for assistance.
Will you help us continue to serve them? Donate now
Together we have made great progress in helping farmers overcome the challenges involved in access to land, especially new, eager farmers just starting out or scaling up. We have also made strides connecting transitioning farmers with successors and succession planning—reducing a major threat to the loss of working farms and to our regional food system.
Your every gift helps sustain farms, farmland, and farming across New England.
