This free webinar series is open to all farmers across New England. Transitioning farmers and younger generation farmers will learn the basics of farm succession planning, how to get started, and where to find resources and support. Plus hear from farmers recently in transition. Presenters include Land For Good staff, a financial planner and tax specialist, and an attorney.

Who should attend:
New England farmers and farm partners who want to learn the basics of farm succession planning, as well as family members or unrelated successors who may play a role in the farm’s future. Recordings will also be made available to all who register!

Meet the presenters

Mike Ghia, Vermont Field Agent, Land For Good. Mike grew up on farm and has been involved with agriculture since childhood. He farmed full-time for 10 years on leased land, and continues to run a part-time maple syrup operation. In addition to doing work for Land For Good for well over a decade, Mike also contracts to do work for the University of Vermont Extension Farm Viability Program as a Farm Business Planner and consults for other UVM programs. He has extensive experience working with farmers and property owners on farm tenure, succession and transfer. Mike is also a trained mediator and does mediation for the VT Agricultural Mediation Program.

Nicholas Bullock, Enrolled Agent and Senior Tax Specialist at Farm Credit East. Nick is a farm tax specialist for Farm Credit East, ACA, and enrolled agent to practice before the IRS. Nick had his own income tax practice in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, for 10 years. He has extensive experience with agricultural enterprises, partnerships, corporations, other small business returns, IRS field audits, and accounting systems. Nick is also a member of the American Society of Agricultural Consultants, instructor for the University of Vermont Extension Income Tax School, and is a past president of the Vermont Tax Practitioners Association.

Attorney Allison Poirier, partner at KKC Law. Allison has been with KKC Law in Vernon CT for over 10 years. She practices in Probate, Estate Planning, and Elder Law. Allison will present on legal aspects of farm succession and transfer.
