We’re hiring! Join our incredible team

Are you passionate about maintaining and expanding working farmlands in New England? Do you feel strongly about supporting local food systems and working in collaboration? We need you!

Land For Good has three open positions – Maine Field Agent, Connecticut Field Agent, and Farm Transfer Program Coordinator. This is a unique opportunity to work on the critical issue of farmland access and transfer in your region – and across New England.

Land For Good is a regional and national leader on issues of farmland access, land tenure security, and farm transfer and succession. Since 2004, Land For Good has been working with farmers, landowners, and a wide network of collaborators to put more farmers more securely on land in New England, to support farm viability, to expand farming opportunity, and to keep farmland in farming.

The Field Agent candidate must be located within their service region to help educate, advise, and support farmers, landowners, farm service providers, and communities. They especially focus on providing technical assistance to farm seekers to acquire farms and improve land tenure security; to exiting farmers on farm succession and transfer planning; and to non-farming landowners (individuals and institutions) who want to make land available for farming. Field Agents are an integral part of a fully-remote Land For Good team dispersed across New England. Field Agents participate in organization-wide projects, such as developing educational materials, regional events, and team strategy. Additionally, Field Agents work closely with partner organizations in their area.

The Farm Transfer Program Coordinator will fill a key role in the organization, coordinating our region-wide, farm transfer program development and delivery. This position works closely with our 10 team members and directly with farmers and landowners. This part-time position can be combined with another role in the organization to build a full time opportunity.

Responsibilities include

  • Consult directly with farmers, landowners, organizations, and agencies
  • Deliver workshops and other educational programming
  • Partner with organizations and agencies to evolve the landscape of available farmland and advance farmland access and transfer services
  • Network and conduct outreach
  • Advocate for policy shifts based on field experience

These are remote, hourly positions (averaging 20 hours per week) – with opportunity to expand and combine roles. If you are interested in a full time position that combines program coordination with a field agent role, please indicate this in your application. Candidates must be located within their service region, have access to a car, and be willing to travel.

The work that’s most meaningful to me with Land For Good is connecting with other farmers. Trying to get farms going or help pass on farms from other farmers. I think there’s this really common thread of farms and food and agriculture being important, no matter what side of the equation people sit on. So it can be great to help people learn new ways, new perspectives, new strategies for tackling problems. And also learning myself from just about everybody I talk to. There’s always a different perspective. We have such a great team on staff that I never feel like I’m relying only on my own skill set or my on own knowledge base. We’re able to really brainstorm all kinds of creative solutions for complex land problems.”
